No. 02 — The Guide

I'm Brock. I fish, I tie, and I teach.

I've been guiding Northern California water full-time since 2014. Before that, I was the kid skipping school to fish the McCloud and the Trinity. The flies in your fly box? I tie them. The river you'll fish on Tuesday? I scouted it Monday.

This isn't an outfitter operation with a rotating roster of seasonal guides. It's one person, one boat, one phone number. When you book Wilson's, you get me — and the relationships I've built with these rivers over twelve seasons.

"Anybody can put you on a stretch of water. The work is putting you on the run that's actually fishing today."

Whether you've never held a rod or you're an old hand looking for a local to crack the code on a new river, the day is built around you. We'll catch fish. More importantly, you'll leave knowing how we caught them.

No. 03 — Where We Fish

Five rivers, two lakes, twelve seasons of notes.

River selection is made the day before based on flows, weather, and hatch. Specific water names shared after booking.

i.

Tailwater Trout

Cold, year-round flows below the dams. Steady hatches, technical sight-fishing, and the occasional wild rainbow that pulls into your backing.

Year-Round · Sight Fishing
ii.

Freestones & Pocket Water

The pretty stuff. Wading boulder fields, dry-dropper rigs through plunge pools, and wild fish in skinny water. Best from late spring into October.

Spring–Fall · Dry Fly
iii.

Spring Creeks

Slow, glassy, cold. Where good casts get rewarded and bad drifts get ignored. We slow it down, pick fish off, and respect the pressure.

Selective · Technical
iv.

Stillwater & High-Country Lakes

Cruising trout, callibaetis hatches, and damselfly migrations. Float-tube days where a six-pound fish on a midge is a real possibility.

Trophy Trout · Float Tube
No. 04 — At the Vise

The Loaded Fly Box.

A working selection of patterns I'd reach for on a guided day. Tied by hand, one box at a time.

A curated, river-ready box of the patterns I tie for paying clients — built to hold up on trophy trout, not to look pretty in a shop window.

  • Premium hooks & tungsten beads. No bending, no breaking on a five-pound rainbow. Wire wraps and head cement on every pattern.
  • Year-round selection.Mayflies, caddis, midges, attractor dries, streamers, and a working stonefly nymph rotation — covers every season I guide.
  • Tied by Brock, personally. No sweatshop hooks, no bulk-bin patterns. Each box is built sitting at my vise with notes on what's working this season.
  • River-tested first. If a pattern doesn't earn its way into my own guide box, it doesn't end up in yours.

No. 05 — From the Net

What folks say after the truck ride home.

Real client quotes go here once Brock approves the page — these are placeholders.

★★★★★

"Brock changed the river based on the flow report at 5am and we ended up on a stretch I'd have driven right past. Three of the biggest browns of my life by lunch."

Mark D.Sacramento · Full-Day Trip
★★★★★

"My first time with a fly rod. He didn't just hand me a setup and point — he taught me how to read the water and made sure I had a fish in the net by mid-morning."

Hannah W.Bay Area · Casting Lesson
★★★★★

"The fly box is the real deal. I've fished it through Montana, the Sierras, and the Smokies and the patterns just work. Worth every dollar."

No. 06 — Book a Day

Pick a date. Let's go fish.

Calendar fills first for spring runoff and fall pre-spawn — text or email if you're trying to lock a specific weekend.

Easiest way to lock a date is a phone call. If I'm on the water I'll get back to you that evening.

Tell me what you're after and a few dates that could work — I'll come back with availability.

No spam, no list. Replies usually same day or next morning if I'm guiding.
